I'm a Delivery & Marketing manager for a fast food chain in the U.K. (also in Canada), and I am so so excited and happy to see you address this!! We get screwed over every single day by all delivery platforms, I have so many tales to tell and things I wish customers would understand.

I just quit a GM position in a local restaurant for unrelated reasons. Using Doordash was so annoying. We were always short staffed because people don't want to work if they are getting paid to stay home or maybe they don't want to work during a pandemic. So we could barely keep up with Doordash orders as more people started eating out again because we didn't get any applicants. I cannot tell you how many times a doordasher would come in 5 minutes after we rang in the order and would get shitty because they don't understand how cooking works. Yes, we quoted 40 minutes on the app. No, we are not lying. Don't get mad at me because you cant follow direction. Then, grubhub wouldnt leave us alone. I kept telling them no because of staffing. Then all of a sudden we start getting Grubhub drivers coming in saying they had an order to pick up. I emailed customer care. They said that we were added onto some trial thing where the driver was supposed to come in and place the order for the customer and take it to them? Um, still a no my guy. Didn't ask for that either. But it was funny how the drivers didnt even understand what was happening when I kept telling them we don't do Grubhub. Sorry for the rant, funny stuff though.

When we tried to cancel INSTANTLY after submitting the order, we were told we would only get half the refund because of 'cancellation fees'....the restaurant could cancel the order, but they couldn't fully refund us as it was done through doordash...used it once and will NEVER use it again.

I especially hate doordash as fast food employee because we have certain items we can't serve at certain times of the day, but while door dash has pictures saying "not available after midnight" and all that, they don't actually program it into their sites and apps. The only thing preventing a customer from ordering what they shouldn't is a picture. This has resulted in several health code violations since we have to either go through the hassle of unsealing and resealing product or we just need to endure bad reviews. Doordash has single handedly run my store's profit margins to the ground and my managers are desperately trying to micro manage the stores to keep them open.

Well one thing to factor is that a lot of the time when a big business “loses money” they’re still making a profit. The “losing money” comes from them being below the projected profit they graphed out most commonly at the start of the fiscal year. Basically, they’re making money, but less money than they thought they’d make.

I ordered mcdonalds through a delivery app and it came out to like $24. I walked to that same mcdonalds and got the same thing and it was $9. Edit: I actually did delivery through two different apps. Doordash was up to $30 and grubhub was $24 and then the mcdonalds curbside order was $9. But that's an hour long walk with lots of hills and idiots that don't obey stopsigns so sometimes I just want delivery but it's ridiculous that it goes from $9 to $30

In my opinion, the future of this "industry" is gonna be through ghost kitchens (kitchens that make food from multiple different restaurants). MatPat actually has a really interesting video about this kinda thing on food theory. Basically, sooner or later there will be far less dine-in fast food chains as they all switch to drive-thru and delivery since its more efficient. Delivery apps can/have start building locations where they just pay a kitchen staff to make food from a few different fast food chains, then have their drivers pick up all these different kinds of food that would normally be from different places at the same place. Chains can do this too. This would cut out the middle man from both sides of the equation, it just needs some more time before it becomes a reality.

Doordash randomly takes things on and off their menus, puts in orders when we're NOT open, the company calls if we take too long to confirm during a rush, and sometimes the drivers don't even check the food we hand them and we have to rely on them to tell us who they're picking up for. Then WE get called by livid customers for the wrong food. I'm just a college kid trying to hustle cut us some slack

A lot of times she has to go to some shadier parts of the state since that’s the closest to her house and they pay better than even my area which is just, yikes. She’s very introverted and would easily freeze up when asking for the delivery food and actually delivering the food. They constantly try to get her to dash for them, while she’s taking a break and working on things like Etsy. And whenever I ask her about DoorDash she looks very unsure Is this why? I have no clue. There was Webcrawler, Ask Jeeves, Altavista, Netscape, Lycos, Excite, and a hundred others, all fighting for internet dominance. I'm convinced that the only reason Google won out is because it can be used as a verb. Nobody wants to tell someone that they "Altavista'ed" something or that they had to "Excite someone real quick."
